Next Generation Ballet: The Nutcracker brings a holiday classic to Carol Morsani Hall - The Straz Center in Tampa, Florida, on December 22, 2026. Listed on ticketstampa.org under Theatre and Ballet, this performance features Next Generation Ballet and Tampa City Ballet. The event is part of the holiday-season run scheduled from December 5 through December 22, 2026.
First performed in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1892, The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and original choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. Its familiar story follows Clara, whose Christmas Eve nutcracker doll comes to life, leading to a battle with the Mouse King and a journey to the Kingdom of Sweets. The ballet's enduring popularity and seasonal tradition have made it one of the world's most performed works.
Audiences can look forward to signature moments including the growing Christmas tree, the Battle with the Mouse King, the Waltz of the Snowflakes, and the dances of the Kingdom of Sweets. Tchaikovsky's score also features the March of the Toy Soldiers, Waltz of the Flowers, and Grand Pas de Deux. The production is expected to include dancers from the two listed companies; specific staging and performance details may vary. The supplied event information does not specify an orchestra or opening act.
The performance is listed at approximately two hours, including one intermission. Its festive story and mix of classical choreography and memorable music make it a seasonal choice for families and ballet audiences. Tampa's holiday arts calendar provides a fitting setting for this annual tradition at the Straz Center.
Carol Morsani Hall is part of the Straz Center, a performing arts venue in downtown Tampa. For a ballet, seating with a clear, centered view of the stage can help guests follow formations and appreciate the full stage picture. Review the venue's current seating chart when choosing seats, as exact section names and sightlines depend on the event configuration.
Prices currently start around $40 for this smaller-scale event and may reach approximately $150, depending on availability, seat location, and demand. Prices can change, so check current listings before purchasing.
Parking availability and rates can change, especially during busy holiday performances. Check the Straz Center's current visitor information before traveling and allow extra time to park and walk to Carol Morsani Hall.
